The CIHR Skin Research Training Centre provides a comprehensive
curricula in skin research education for trainees. The
full curriculum for each trainee is tailored to the specific
needs of each individual. In general, trainees are expected
to attend several education sessions each week as well
as special events that take place throughout the year.
Weekly Events
- One hour per week for seminars or
workshops.
- Four to five days per week
(depending
on the trainee’s experience
level) for advanced directed studies
and
basic science projects as determined
between
trainee and key mentors.
- Dermatology
Journal Club, immunology seminars,
biostatistics and epidemiology
rounds, and Vancouver General Hospital
Research Rounds available to trainees
and attended as determined between
trainee and key mentors.
Yearly Events
- Dermatology Research Day and
associated forums with graduates
of the trainee program, the Dermatology
Department, and other related research
programs – presentation
of research and networking.
- Careers convention with external
speakers and networking.
- Grants workshop
with external speakers and networking.
- Ethics
workshop with external speakers and
networking.
- Professional presentation
skills workshop.
- Dermatology Department
publicity week with presentation
of research
to the general public.
- External laboratory training – amount
of time depends on nature of external
training and agreement between trainee
and mentor.
- Integrated internet based
training.
