The CIHR Skin Research Training Centre
(CIHR-SRTC) is an institution for the
development and expansion of skin research
in Canada.
The SRTC recruits and trains clinical
dermatologists and research scientists
in skin research principles and techniques.
The CIHR-SRTC curriculum and courses
will provide training within the general
theme of skin inflammation and repair
by streamlining the program into four
priority foci that coordinate
with high clinical impact research
areas currently in need of enhanced
expertise and capacity in Canada. The
four foci are:
- Skin inflammation, pigmentation,
and environmental interactions
- Wound healing and cutaneous stem
cells
- Skin immunity and tolerance
- Epidemiology,
health outcomes, and pharmaco-economics
of skin
diseases in
Canada
These four areas are woven into a tailored
curriculum that includes a core compulsory “skin
research foundations course” centered
on six themes, and a choice of three
customized advanced skin research portfolio
tracks centered on basic science, clinical
research, or epidemiology/health outcomes.
